Garlic Planting Procedures
Garlic can be planted in fertile loam, sand, black cotton soils with good water drainage. In water logged areas garlic bulbs may rot or die. Garlic is planted in a spacing of around 4 inches, this ensures good plant population.

Garlic Farming Cost Analysis
Garlic farming is one most profitable farming. In 1 acre piece of land garlic farming may yield 4000kgs -7000kgs, farm gate price for fresh garlic is around 200 Ksh - 350 Ksh per kg. Production cost is around 300,000 Ksh - 350,000 Ksh.
This will give around 600,000 Ksh - 1,150,000 Ksh net profit in 1 acre piece of land.

Disease & Pest Management
Garlic takes around 4 months from planting to harvest. Its mainly affected by 2 diseases namely; rust and blight. Rust is brownish spots on the leaves surface and blight is yellowing and coiling of leaves tips.
The preventive measures of rust and blight is spraying Folicur and Ridomic respectively.
Garlic has is also affected by pests called Thrips. These are thin like worms in the middle of leaves cluster that sucks the juice form the leaves hence altering the growth of the plants.
